VoiceOver Support

Inky fully supports VoiceOver, Apple's screen reader technology. Users can navigate and explore the app using gestures, keyboard, braille, and speech output.

Voice Control

Larger Text (Dynamic Type)

Inky supports Dynamic Type and can increase text size to 200% or more. The app respects the user's system text size preferences and provides additional font size controls.

  • Custom Font Sizes: Additional font size options (Small, Medium, Large, Extra Large) available in settings
  • Reading Level Adjustments: Font sizes automatically adjust based on reading level preferences
  • Story Text Scaling: Story text scales up to 200%+ for comfortable reading
  • Minimum Legibility: Text never scales below 14pt to ensure readability

Dark Interface

Inky supports dark mode to reduce eye strain, especially useful for bedtime reading. The app provides multiple dark theme options.

  • System Dark Mode: Automatically follows iOS system appearance settings
  • Manual Dark Mode: Users can manually enable dark mode in app settings
  • Reading Backgrounds: Multiple dark reading backgrounds available (Night, True Black) for comfortable reading
  • Automatic Theme Switching: Optional automatic switching based on time of day

Differentiate Without Color Alone

Inky uses shapes, icons, and text labels in addition to color to distinguish key information. All important information is accessible to users who cannot distinguish colors.

  • Story categories use both color and icons

Sufficient Contrast

Inky uses high-contrast color combinations and semantic colors that adapt to light and dark modes to ensure text and icons are clearly visible.

  • Semantic Colors: Uses iOS semantic colors (.primary, .secondary) that automatically provide sufficient contrast
  • Adaptive Colors: All colors adapt to light and dark modes for optimal contrast
  • Reading Contrast: Story text uses high-contrast color combinations
  • Button Contrast: All buttons meet minimum contrast requirements
  • Customizable: Users can choose reading backgrounds with optimal contrast

Reduced Motion

Inky respects the user's Reduce Motion preference and modifies or reduces animations that may cause motion sickness or discomfort.

  • System Preference: Automatically respects iOS Reduce Motion setting
  • Animation Alternatives: Provides non-animated alternatives for page turns and transitions
  • Page Turn Effects: Users can choose between animated (curl, slide) or no animation page turns
  • Reduced Transitions: All transitions respect Reduce Motion preference
